Moving to Italy during the pandemic of 2020

In following our fall traditions, last year in 2019 my family and I picked apples, ate apple cider donuts, and drank warm apple cider while strolling through the orchard of Wegman’s Farm in New Jersey. This year it's foraging for chestnuts. Every year for 9 years we visited this farm decorated with haystacks, scarecrows, and pastures dotted with all varieties of pumpkins just for picking – never for eating. The hayride – my son’s favorite treat, was a ride in the back of a trailer drawn by an old john deere tractor. Sitting on bales of hay, we had the first-row seat to nature’s beauty as we drove through woods lined with heavily laden leaves of gold, reds, oranges, and yellows. I would have to say fall in New Jersey was my favorite time of year. How quickly things change in the flash of an eye.

The Fish Doctor

This week I accepted an Instagram challenge to show a selfie in black and white in solidarity to sisterhood and empowering women. Well since the pandemic taking selfies is not an option for obvious reasons. So I posted a photo of me going down memory lane to where my interest in Marine Biology and Aquaculture began. One very memorable summer as a research assistant in my 3rd year of University - The University of the West Indies in Jamaica. When I am at the ocean, I am the most authentic that I can be and I hope to inspire and motivate other women to embrace ocean conservation through the field of aquaculture.

Two summers ago I spent the summer in my homeland embracing all the people, events and places that shaped the person that I am. The Caribbean Sea certainly played a significant part of my life and I look forward to participating in projects that will promote sustainability and environmental awareness to our marine environment.

I hope you enjoy my interview with Bonnie Waycott from her series on Women in Aquaculture. The interview brought back memories of my 19-year-old self that summer in Discovery Bay Jamaica taking the boat out to the Bay to collect data. Swimming and snorkelling amongst the fishes were some of my happiest moments.
